About Mizu Kan’i

In Japanese, Mizu translates to water and Kan'i to ease. Water never forces its path. It simply flows around every obstacle. Together, they reflect our hope that by taking time to pause and reflect, you can meet life with that same inner ease and peace.

To us, inner ease is the absence of internal resistance. It’s the mental flexibility to move around life's obstacles without panicking, overthinking, or forcing outcomes. It’s feeling settled on the inside, even when circumstances outside are unpredictable. Peace is the steady baseline underneath, a state of mind that stays anchored through stress and outside noise. Together, inner ease and peace mean moving through your day with a calm centre. Everything in this journal was built to bring you closer to that.

Our Journey

We’re a husband-and-wife team born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, bringing together our Asian and European heritage. Like so many families, our daily life is a balancing act. We’re raising our young daughter, caring for our aging parents, working demanding careers, keeping up with our health and fitness, and trying to stay grounded while making time for family and friends.

As a new mom, I struggled deeply with postpartum depression. Carrying that weight in silence was lonelier than I can describe. That experience opened our eyes to how many people quietly carry their own stress, anxiety, grief, and burnout beneath the surface, trying to meet society’s relentless expectations and the pressure to do it all.

We wanted to find a more grounded way forward, not only for our own well-being, but to support anyone silently struggling and to model a calmer, more mindful world for our children. We simply needed a dedicated space to process the noise and come back to centre.

We designed this journal to anchor our day with intentional moments of reflection, gratitude, and perspective. If this practice can help even one person feel less alone and find a deep sense of peace in their day, we’ll be grateful.

Crafted with Care

We didn’t want to hurry this process. It took over three years of intentional work to carefully choose every concept, select every quote, test every prompt in our daily lives, and refine the details until only what was truly helpful remained.

That same intention went into how the journal is made:

  • The Tactile Experience. Designed with a bamboo-inspired hardcover featuring subtle tactile grooves, paired with premium paper heavy enough to hold your ink without bleeding through.
  • Made in Canada. Proudly printed and bound in Canada to ensure exceptional craftsmanship while supporting Canadian makers.
  • A Lighter Footprint. Thoughtfully produced with sustainably sourced materials, ensuring this daily practice remains gentle on the earth as well as your mind. To give back, we also plant a tree with every order.
